Embark on a Dystopian Odyssey in Somerville, MA: The ThotBot Implantation Center Returns This Fall
Prepare to venture into an alternate dystopian history as The ThotBot Implantation Center (TBIC) - an immersive, interactive installation created by musician/filmmaker/multimedia artist Rebecca Kopucinski - opens its doors for an extended run beginning this October and running through March 2026 at Bow Market, Somerville's vibrant creative marketplace.
This interactive installation invites fourteen participants per night to navigate a uniquely staged experience: beginning in a meticulously designed Waiting Room, where the curious (or those afflicted with a "glitch") may reset or upgrade their "ThotBot" operating systems. The space offers several opportunities for self-directed exploration. An intermission necessary for spatial reconfiguration allows attendees an opportunity to reset their senses and enjoy Bow Market's eclectic eateries, drink options, and even a pinball parlor. The evening concludes with a captivating a/v concert, blending live music with narrative video to plunge participants deeper into the dystopian storyverse.
"The experience offers a sensory-rich journey, designed to suspend reality and invite exploration and introspection," says Kopucinski, "not to mention toss you back to 1995 with a nostalgic punch in the gut." Attendees have voiced enthralling responses, contributing to the experience's cult following. Notably, all 64 shows staged through February 2025 sold out, signaling a compelling demand from those drawn to immersive narrative art.
One audience member described their journey this way:
"I was walking home one night when I saw a strange flyer on a telephone pole. Something about it felt cryptic, so I pulled a tab and looked it up when I got home. That little act of curiosity sent me down the ThotBot rabbit hole and before I knew it, I was sitting in the waiting room spilling my secrets on my intake form. It was surreal and unsettling, but also nostalgic and comforting. Wildly unique unlike anything I've ever experienced."
Art in an Era of Uncertainty
For Kopycinski, this ambitious six month run of the Implantation Center is not only an artistic endeavor but also a statement about the realities of sustaining creative work in today's world. Rising costs of living, social and political turbulence, and the challenges of working outside traditional institutional support structures make it increasingly difficult for independent artists to thrive.
"ThotBot is about building worlds, but it's also about building a livelihood in a world that doesn't always value the labor behind art," saus Kopycinski, "I decided I needed to take drastic measures to stay afloat. If that means spending half my year performing this show, then staging a few nights of the immersive theater Episode called "Remediation" in the Spring, so be it. Since its opening night in January 2020, every night of the Implantation Center has sold out. So I'm hopeful it'll continue to captivate audiences and word will continue to spread."
The immersive installation stands as both a fictional narrative and a lived reality, where survival, the search for meaning, and expression of identity are inextricably linked. In an era when many artists are pushed to the margins, TBIC serves as a reminder of the resilience and necessity of creative work as a form of cultural resistance.

The ThotBot Storyverse: Four Interconnected Episodes
The ThotBot Implantation Center is just one part of a larger dystopian mythology that spans multiple mediums:
Reagan Esther Muer - A concept album and multimedia musical that introduces the storyworld's fractured timeline through the eyes of its titular character.
ThotBot Implantation Center (TBIC) - An immersive installation and performance in Somerville, MA, where participants undergo their own "intake" experience.
Remediation -- Immersive theater with live music returning Spring 2026. It's like you're attending an underground meeting of the Resistance where you learn how to purposefully glitch your ThotBot.
After Impact -- A podcast series that dives deeper into the lore and philosophical underpinnings of the Storyverse, available on all streaming platforms. Season 2 slated for release in Fall 2025.
Together, these four "Episodes" form the ThotBot Storyverse: a sprawling multimedia exploration of technology, memory, emotion and humanity in an imagined retro-futuristic dystopia.
