Ashley Vick believes jewelry has a story to tell. Ask anyone about the statement piece
they’re wearing and out comes a narrative about where they bought it and why.
Ashley’s own story goes back generations to her great-grandmother, Filomena —
an entrepreneur in her own right and the company’s namesake. Even though they never met,
Ashley’s early work was inspired by the belongings she found in her grandmother’s house.
"From the Artifacts of Filomena Demarco is a body of sculptural pieces of jewelry based on a fictional
story that I created through her writings and belongings. Her story has always stuck with me,
and this is my way to pay homage to her," she told us.

Having grown up in Providence, Rhode Island, Ashley was introduced to jewelry design at RISD and via local manufacturers like JMT Epoxy. She followed her interest to Boston, where she earned a BFA in
metalsmithing from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Shortly
thereafter, she began her own business out of a studio in Somerville.

At Filomena Demarco you’ll find one-of-a-kind designs. Ashley’s a fan of natural
stones and lets their natural characteristics, like texture and color,
inform her designs. As she says, "I find my inspiration in each stone
I hand pick and take my cues from there." In addition to running Filomena Demarco,
Ashley also teaches metal smithing at the Brookline Art Center.

"I’ve always dreamt of having a brick and mortar. I caught wind of this exciting idea
being developed at just the right point in the trajectory of my business. It’s just as
I pictured it—a cozy, comfortable space with my work bench in the back, a showcase
in the front, and an area where I can meet one-on-one with clients.

Bow Market is the perfect environment for growth. The square footage is manageable
and the array of businesses is so exciting. It’ll be a unique place to shop
local and I’m excited about the potential. I live in Union Square so to have this in
my own community is such a gift! Very inspiring."
