Shane Clyburn and Bobby MacLean, co-founders of In Season Food Shop, have long been involved in local food. Bobby grew up on a farm in New Hampshire and has owned and operated the Compliments food truck since 2012. Shane currently serves as chair of Slow Food Boston and manager for the Copley Square Farmers Market in Boston. We love meeting others involved in the local food scene and share a passion to see the community thrive.
WHAT THEY SELL
Products available at In Season Food Shop will include our made-to-order meals and drinks, local food products, and a curated selection of grocery essentials. Our simple menu of meal bowls, salads, soups, and smoothies will be made with fresh ingredients sourced primarily from New England. We’ll highlight which local sources we use whenever possible, and the menu will change throughout the year to reflect what’s being harvested at the time.
Our retail shelves will be stocked with snacks, drinks, fresh fruits and vegetables, and other food items grown and produced in New England. Everything not available locally will be purchased from ethical Fair Trade sources. Our vision for In Season Food Shop is to remind visitors of a country farmstand, neighborhood deli, and corner bodega all at the same time.

Both Bobby and Shane are worried about the current state of food in America, but we’re also hopeful. We became friends partly due to our shared concern for the plight of small farmers and family-owned food businesses at the expense of Big Ag and industrial food production. We believe that these small, family-owned business offer far better food than their industrial counterparts, yet they often struggle to find customers.
By making locally produced food convenient and accessible to the Union Square neighborhood, we hope to do our part in supporting the small businesses that make this area such a great place to live.
We feel like Bow Market is the perfect place to launch our business. The community of businesses moving into the market is a vibrant cross-section of what makes the Somerville area so great. We’ll be surrounded by artists, artisans, specialty retailers, and other brilliant, creative people. It will be wonderful getting to know our neighbors and the diverse mix of people we expect will be visiting Bow Market for the many amazing experiences it will offer them.
