"You Weren't Meant to Be Human" Book Club x Side Quest Books & Games

Join Side Quest Books & Games for a discussion of Jenn Lyons' novel, "Green & Deadly Things."

ABOUT THE BOOK

Alien meets Midsommar in this chilling debut adult novel from award-winning author Andrew Joseph White about identity, survival, and transformation amidst an alien invasion in rural West Virginia.

You Weren’t Meant to Be Human is a deeply personal horror; a visceral statement about the lives of marginalized people in a hostile world, echoing the works of Stephen Graham Jones and Eric LaRocca.

"Dread" Game Night x Side Quest Books & Games

Join Side Quest Books & Games for a one-shot of Dread, a horror game that uses a Jenga tower to determine your fate.

ABOUT THE GAME

Dread is a horror RPG where instead of rolling dice to determine the outcome of your actions, you'll be pulling pieces from a Jenga tower. If you pull a block successfully, you complete the action successfully. If the tower falls, your character dies.

In this particular game of Dread, you'll be playing associates of Mr. Henry Marlow. One of the most successful bankers of this generation. He is known for his confident personality and his striking good luck. Everything always seemed to work out for him immeasurably well, and this has leant him untold wealth and power. Staying in his good graces could mean a piece of his influence or fortune. However, Mr Marlow is known for taking extreme risks and being willing to sacrifice anything. Good thing it always works out for him. Working with Mr. Marlow can be a risky game, but you all have your reasons to take on that risk.

We will play with safety tools to protect ourselves, but themes of being an outsider and treated with prejudice will come up.

But when they learn that they are to receive a mysterious inheritance, the siblings are reunited--only to discover that their bequest isn't land or money, but something far stranger: a sentient house on chicken legs.

An enchanted adventure illuminated by Jewish myth and adorned with lyrical prose as tantalizing and sweet as briar berries, Thistlefoot is an immersive modern fantasy saga by a bold new talent.

Join Side Quest Books & Games and experienced GM Chi for a storytelling game of plant magic and witching.

Wise Women is tabletop roleplaying game in which the players take on the roles of witches living in a remote village, where life is difficult and people often fall prey to supernatural creatures.

The witches have the ability to use magical properties of plants to protect their community and help it prosper, but their skills are viewed with suspicion and prejudice. After all, magic is another supernatural force and the same plants that can heal, can also be used to cause harm.

Will the witches continue to strive to protect and improve their community, or will the prejudice drive them to lash out and turn to violence and Dark Magic?

We will play with safety tools to protect ourselves, but themes of being an outsider and treated with prejudice will come up.

Sand Casting Workshop w/ Zeloof Designworks

Learn to cast pewter in sand molds — you’ll bring something small to replicate (a toy, pendant, or simple ring) and use it to make a two-part mold out of special oil-infused sand, and carve metal flow and air escape paths. We’ll then pour Pewter, a low-melting-temperature metal (so low that we can melt it on a warming plate!), into the mold. Once it cools, we’ll clean up the castings a bit to create a final piece.
